The God of War franchise is turning 20 years old later this month, and to celebrate, developer Sony Santa Monica has announced a free update to God of War Ragnarok that’ll go live on March 20. Inspired by the working title of 2005’s God of War, as well as the skin that players could earn in God of War 2 if they finished the game on God Mode difficulty, the Dark Odyssey collection includes several cosmetic skins for Kratos and his weapons, and outfits for Atreus and Freya.
Beyond that, fans can also expect the franchise to celebrate its impressive milestone with an art exhibition, game sales, and some retail therapy as there’ll be quite a lot of celebratory merchandise available to purchase.
First up, the Dark Odyssey collection adds a modern version of the black and gold character skin that can be equipped to Kratos, complementary armor pieces, new armor sets for companions, and new weapon cosmetics. One thing to note here is that the Dark Odyssey cosmetics for weapons and shields are made specifically for the fully upgraded version of each weapon and will only be available for use upon reaching that upgrade level.

This looks to be focused strictly on God of War’s artistic legacy, as Sony confirmed that there won’t be any planned announcements during the exhibition. But outside of the art event, it is rumored that the games in the original God of War trilogy are being remastered and could be officially revealed this month. At the same time, Sony Santa Monica has multiple projects in development, including its first new IP in 20 years.
PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can also download God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok through the PS Plus Game Catalog currently, and God of War 3 Remastered is part of the Classics Catalog as well. On PC, both God of War and God of War Ragnarok are on sale until March 20.
As for the anniversary merchandise, preorders will open later this month for a range of goods, including a God of War two-volume retrospective book set, anniversary prints, a very long Jörmungandr plushie that also doubles as a puppet thanks to a hidden sleeve, vinyl records, and T-shirts.
