Baldur’s Gate 3’s Act Two expansion is set to launch in 2025, introducing a custom campaign and a stunning new region showcased in an exciting new trailer.

It’s that time again. Another ambitious Baldur’s Gate 3 custom campaign mod has put out a trailer offering a taste of what its creators have been cooking. In this case, it’s one modder taking on the task of developing a whole expansion to go between acts two and three of BG3’s main story, and they’re hoping to deliver a fully playable version 1.0 by the end of this year.

SquallyDaBeanz is the modder in question, and they’ve got form when it comes to delivering on their BG3 custom campaign plans, having released an initial version of another project – their World of Warcraft-inspired Forsaken custom campaign – earlier this year.

Late yesterday, they released the first teaser trailer for their latest project – Baldur’s Gate 3: Act Two Expansion – as well as giving us an idea of when we might be able to play it. Version 1.0 of the mod is currently planned to drop in “late 2025”.

As you can check out below, it looks like its coming together pretty damn well:

“The Act Two Expansion adds a new region to the game that is accessible between Acts 2 and 3,” SquallyDaBeanz explains in the description, “It features new areas, dungeons, encounters, items, secrets, puzzles, lore, and more. The main goal of the project is to give players a whole new region to experience that is similar in scope to the Act 1 Wilderness. This mod focuses mainly on exploration and combat to capture a similar sandbox feel, while getting to enjoy all the fun of mid-to-high level characters, spells, and items!”

It is worth noting that the modder admits that adding new NPCs with full cutscenes and dialogue has been a “very low priority”, with them writing that “lore and story are told primarily through notes and the environment”.

If you’re wondering how this extra detour will fit into the current flow of BG3’s main story, the modder outlined that their expansion “takes place after leaving the Shadow Cursed Lands but before reaching Baldur’s Gate. With the Army of the Absolute on the march, Tav and the gang must find a way to cross the Chionthar River before taking part in an epic battle against the Absolute’s army at Rivington.”

They add via Discord that they’re “not really” worried about the extra encounters potentially messing with Act 3’s usual balancing, writing: “Player level entering Act 3 [is] already varied wildly between playthroughs, and many people end up hitting max level for most of the act anyway”.

So, you and your usual gang of buddies exploring a new place before getting into a massive scrap with those pesky cultists. Sounds cool. Act Two Expansion will be playable either solo or with multiplayer mods when it drops on PC, but there aren’t any plans to bring it to consoles, due the restrictions that entails.
