Baldur’s Gate 3‘s huge Patch 8 is now live, finally giving you your chance to dive into its new subclasses, cross-play mechanics, photo mode, and more. Yep, your days of jealously staring through the window at all of those stress testers enjoying some early fun are now over.
Larian revealed a lot of what’s in this Patch last year, and suggested that it’ll be the game’s final major update, really, it swears this time. The cross-play it includes looked to be the main thing the studio was looking for feedback on from its stress testing, which accidentally led to some PS5 folks getting a kinda broken version of the patch early back in January.
Anyway, as Larian announced last week, Patch 8 has just rolled out today, April 15. Here are the patch notes, and they’re just as beefy as Swen Vincke suggested.
Of course, the biggest headlines are the stuff that was already announced – those 12 new subclasses, the cross-play between console and PC, and the photo mode that’ll let you pose your faves however you want to create endless memes about bear sex. The game also now has Steam trading cards, for some reason.
There’s also a message from Larian that makes damn sure you know that this patch is the last big one BG3’ll be getting: “This is it. Our final major game patch for Baldur’s Gate 3. You’ve helped us make BG3 a bigger success than any of us could’ve ever hoped for, and that passion could keep us tweaking things and making changes until the end of time. But then we’d never be able to create something new.
“Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content. That means we won’t be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions. We’ve told our stories the way we needed to tell them, and tried our best to make them impactful and engaging, and we’re continuing to get better at handling our own chaos so that we can continue to create more chaos in the future.”
Doubling down even further, Larian’s collabed with Spud Gun Studios again to create a special final patch animated short, which sees studio CEO Vincke blast a dragon’s skin off while floating atop a swarm of bees in full plate armour. Classic.
For a deeper dive into Patch 8, you can also tune into the dev stream Larian’ll be running on its official Twitch channel tomorrow – April 16, 1pm UTC is the date and time it’ll kick off.
So, there you go, dive in and have some fun. Also make sure to stay tuned for more news about the litany of interesting BG3 custom campaign mods currently in the works and stuff like the BG3 Stardew Valley mod, which’ll keep the fun flowing as Larian moves more of its attention towards whatever it’s making next.
