Baldur’s Gate 3’s mod The Grand Theater is gearing up for its major update next month, including a boss battle that’s sure to thrill fans of Baldur’s Gate 2.

Baldur’s Gate 3 custom campaign mod The Grand Theater made its debut last month, releasing as an initial 1.0 version that let you get a taste of the bard-filled adventure involving the Red Wizards of Thay that’ll be playing out on stage at its titular playhouse. Now, the first big update on its roadmap to completion has been gotten a release window, as well as a feature deep-dive.

If you missed that initial release of modder Moezilla’s project – possibly because you were too busy thinking about the litany of other BG3 custom campaigns in the works right now, such as Forsaken and Path To Menzobarranzan – it takes you and your companions to a cool new location dripping with intrigue and snazzy lighting.

As part of putting that first version out there, Moezilla provided some initial details about what they’d be aiming to do with its first big update – version 1.1 – via the mod’s description, and they’ve now expanded on that via an update video. You’ll also be glad to know that this update now has a target release window that the modder’s revealed via a post on Discord.

If all goes well, the update will be released around the end of April, with Moezilla detailing that they aim to get it into QA testing by that month, one would assume pretty early on so that any kinks can be ironed out in good time if it’s going to hit that window.

So, what can you look forward to in this update? Well, as detailed in Moezilla’s Discord post as well as the showcase video mentioned eariler (good spot, PC Guide), you’re getting full combat that’ll include a boss fight with a returning Baldur’s Gate 2 character – Kangaxx the Demilich. The modder looks to have found a way to write around you possibly having killed the sometimes just a floating skull fella in that game, and besting them will land you an equally familiar reward, in the form of the Ring of Gaxx.

Aside from that, Moezilla writes that you can expect full questlines for 3/6 of the mod’s currently planned quests, fresh dialogue, a newly-opened gambling room that they provide a nice tour of in the video, and two new hidden rooms. There’s also the return of Edwin Odesseiron from the first two Baldur’s Gates, and the news that “66% of [the mod’s] outside area” will be done.

The modder adds that they should have another progress update video coming “within like 3 or 4 weeks”, which will likely offer more info on how the work of them and the small team they’ve pulled together is going.

Will you be checking out The Grand Theater again once this update drops? Let us know below, and make sure to stay tuned for plenty more news about BG3 mods.
