Bungie reignites the Marathon hype with bizarre visuals that feel like sandpaper for your eyes.

Remember Bungie’s Marathon reboot? Well, the studio has noe rediscovered where it left the keys to the still upcoming extraction shooter’s social media channels, and whipped out some stuff fans reckon is teasing some more concrete info about the game dropping soon.

To be fair, we are now in 2025, the year Marathon’s roll-out/playtesting was reportedly delayed into back in 2023, amid layoffs at developer Bungie. Also likely contributing the game’s relatively MIA status over the past couple of years has been current game director Joe Ziegler having taken over that position from former director Chris Barrett, with the latter having since entered an ongoing legal battle with Sony and Bungie related to his firing over alleged misconduct

Anyway, what are these teases which have marked the first proper news on the game itself we’ve gotten since late last year? Well, the most prominent one is a weird, glitchy moving graphic thing that is not fun to look at.

I’ve embedded it below so you can suffer like I’ve had to. It’s a weird mess of constantly shifting black, white, purple, and lime green shapes and lines, with some text just chilling amid it. Said text is pretty hard to read all in one go due to the nature of the s**t going on around it.

Among the things it says are the following:

• “SIGNAL HITS EARTH/MARS”
• “WE SEE THE TRUTH BENEATH STATIC”
• “UESC ENCRYPTIONS LIKE CHAINS AROUND DATA”
• “decrypt, decrypt, decrypt. free the data. arm the truth”
• “MIDA SEEMS. MIDA HEARS. MIDA DECRYPTS”
• “The signal is coming. the truth is coming. are you ready?

So, those very much seem like teasers for a plot, and fans have been well busy digging into this graphic and the other two – this one and this one – Bungie has posted, with the latter looking like it’s had some teases of weapons hidden in it ARG-style.
