If you spent any amount of time playing the original Frostpunk, then you’ll know it and its sequel are unforgiving survival city-building strategy games, where every choice makes a difference in the long run. If you don’t optimize your city layout, choose the correct research, or top up supplies frequently, your run ultimately ends in disaster. Frostpunk 2 innovates and expands upon the core premise of the original game, but streamlines much of the experience with its new district-building system. For some, it’s an unforgivable mistake. Others, however, find it to be the most natural progression of the franchise.
Over on Steam, Frostpunk 2 sits at ‘Mostly Positive’ at the time of writing, with many thousands of user reviews contributing to its current score. On the critics’ side of the spectrum, the challenging city-building game scores high, even winning awards and nominations for best gameplay and PC game of the year.
However, among the many negative user reviews on Steam for Frostpunk 2, folks complain about gameplay design choices, restrictions, mechanics that feel too complex, visual performance, UI, and a perceived distinct lack of charm.
