Evercade Unveils Two New Super Pocket Handhelds with Neo Geo and Data East Game Libraries

The Evercade Super Pocket lineup is once again expanding, as the Super Pocket Data East Edition and Super Pocket Neo Geo Edition are up for preorder ahead of their June release. Each handheld is loaded with over a dozen games and works with the existing library of Evercade cartridges. That gives you access to 500+ officially licensed retro games, making this a great way to enjoy retro classics without having to be tethered to a TV or PC.

The Neo Geo and Data East Editions join four other members of the Super Pocket lineup, which include models based around other popular game publishers like Capcom, Taito, and more.

More Super Pocket Models

While the list of pre-installed games and physical color schemes differ between these models, they all feature a compact footprint of less than 5 inches tall and under 1 inch thick with a 2.8-inch IPS display, a D-pad, four face buttons, four back buttons, a 3.5mm audio jack, and USB-C charging port.

Each Super Pocket model also supports existing Evercade cartridges, including two new cartridges Blaze Entertainment showed off along with these upcoming Super Pocket models. The first is The Gremlin Collection 2, which bundles together four 32-bit titles from Gremlin Interactive: Loaded, Re-Loaded, Hogs of War, and Buggy. The second features five more titles from Data East: Atomic Runner Chelnov, Karnov, Rohga, Vapor Trail, and Windjammers. As a bonus, these cartridges are packed with a full-color manual offering tips and tricks to help you learn the ropes–they also make cool display pieces.

Like other Evercade carts, the new cartidges work with the Super Pocket and various other Evercade devices like the EXP-R, VS-R, and Everace Alpha. The EXP-R is a larger handheld platform, while the VS-R is a home console that connects to your TV via HDMI and supports 1080p images. It comes with a single wired controller and supports third-party gamepads and Bluetooth controllers with the 8BitDo Wireless USB Adapter for multiplayer action. As for the Evercade Alpha? Our review found it to be the “best and most versatile home arcade machine” on the market. Be sure to give them all a look if you’re seeking a premium way to enjoy retro games on modern screens.
