Firaxis delays Civilization 7’s inaugural in-game event to introduce the Bermuda Triangle and release substantial updates aimed at addressing player concerns.

Firaxis has had its hands full since Civilization 7 dropped, as it’s been busy trying to fix and change elements of the game that earned it a pretty mixed response out of the gate. That mission’s set to continue via some patches next month, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer to jump into Civ 7’s first in-game special event.

This was announced via a “check-in” post Firaxis has put out, which sees the studio outline some of the stuff the next two updates – 1.1.0 and 1.1.1 – will be bringing when they arrive in March. Meanwhile, the need to focus on these updates has meant the first in-game event that’d been pencilled in for March 4 – Natural Wonder Battle – has been pushed back to “a later update”.

So, what’s on the way in these patches? Well, the first one – Update 1.1.0 – is set to drop on March 4. It’ll be the point when cross-play between PC and Console and will give everyone a free new natural wonder in the form of the Bermuda Triangle, everyone’s favourite mysterious bit of water.

Aside from that, you can expect “additional UI adjustments, polish, and addressing of reported issues”, “refinements to the army unpacking action” and a tweak that means “Naval units will be able to disperse coastal independent powers”. Plus, there’ll be “significant changes to the modern age’s cultural legacy path and victory” that means “AI leaders will also be better at completing a cultural victory”, and you’ll gain the option to convert holy cities during the exploration age.

Finally, that update’ll bring with it the first bit of the Crossroads of the World Collection DLC, so if you’ve bought that, or either the Deluxe or Founders editions of the game, look out for that giving you things like new leader Ada Lovelace and the Great Britain (Modern Age) civ, the latter of which I assume is the key to building the most depressing nation possible.

After that, pencilled in for March 25 is Update 1.1.1, which’ll include “additional UI improvements and refinements” that are “just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months”. It’ll also give everyone Mount Everest, improve AI how the scouts and settles, and give you the ability to give your cities and commanders custom names like ‘Satan’s Armpit’ and ‘Satan’. It’ll arrive with the second part of that Crossroads of the World Collection DLC.

Beyond this, the studio also outlined a bunch of general stuff it’s looking to do going forwards, including adding in new maps and resources, mod tools and steam Workshop support, and a one more turn button so you can play on into the future once the modern age is done.
