Everything You Need to Know About Atomic Batteries in Atomfall

Atomic Batteries are highly important objects that you can add to your inventory in Atomfall. You might not know what they’re used for early on in the game, but soon enough, you’ll wish you knew all the methods to find them throughout the Quarantine Zone.

In the guide below, we’ll go over all of the methods you can utilize to find Atomic Batteries in Atomfall and the different ways they’re used during your journey.

Where to get Atomic Batteries in Atomfall

Surprisingly, there are several different ways you can acquire an Atomic Battery in Atomfall. Despite the survival game being stingy on supplies for most of your adventure, you can accumulate quite a large number of Atomic Batteries if you know where to search.

Below, you can see every way we’ve been able to find Atomic Batteries and a little explanation on how to take advantage of those methods.

Search B.A.R.D. Crates and other chests

The most common way you’ll come across Atomic Batteries in Atomfall is through special B.A.R.D. Crates that are scattered throughout the different maps in the Quarantine Zone. These crates can be found just about anywhere, but the most common locations you’ll stumble upon them are in underground bunkers.

The bunkers are most commonly found in Skethermoor, as that’s where a large majority of the military forces are in the Quarantine Zone, but every map aside from Wyndham Village has at least one of these bunkers with a B.A.R.D. Crate in them.

You don’t even have to find a special B.A.R.D. Crate, though. Chests, such as the one that requires the Vicar’s Key in St. Katherine’s Church, can also contain an Atomic Battery. For the Vicar’s Chest specifically, you can loot the Vicar’s Key by killing the vicar inside the church. Other chests can also contain Atomic Batteries, but you’ll find most of them require a special key to open or are located in areas where you might normally look on the map.

Bartering with vendors

That’s right, even the lowly vendors you can meet across the Quarantine Zone can sell Atomic Batteries. However, there is some nuance when it comes to this specific method.

For some reason, a vendor’s stock in Atomfall is different for all players depending on when you visit them. For example, I visited Molly in Slatten Dale early on in Atomfall, and she didn’t have an Atomic Battery for sale. However, when I visited her several hours later, she had a battery ready to trade. On the flip side, another staff member at GameSpot found that Molly had completely different items than I saw at the start of the game and halfway through.

So while you still want to check all of your local vendors that you meet, don’t expect them to have an Atomic Battery for sale. And if you heard from someone that a certain vendor has a specific item, like a battery, that doesn’t mean the same vendor will have that item in stock when you visit them in your playthrough.

If a vendor does have an Atomic Battery in stock, you can expect them to value it highly. This means you need to put up quite a valuable supply of goods to successfully barter for the battery.

Killing robots

An underrated, yet difficult way of acquiring Atomic Batteries in Atomfall is by pulling them out of the large robots that patrol different areas of the Quarantine Zone. You’ll immediately know the robots when you see them, as they stand out from every other enemy you can find on any given map.

We have an in-depth guide on how to kill robots in Atomfall, but the general idea is that you need to damage them enough to disable them for a brief moment. When this happens, you can go behind the robot, interact with its back, and pull out the Atomic Battery that is powering it. This rewards you with a full Atomic Battery and leaves the robot fully disabled in the process, so it’s a win-win.

You can find robots all throughout Atomfall, but here are some of the best locations for them:

  • Inside the ground floor of the Interchange (near the Robotics/Data Store Room A entrances)
  • In the Robotics facility in the Interchange (where you go to fetch Dr Garrow’s research notes)
  • In the Dam Data Store in Casterfell Woods (the location of the ERA Command quest for Dr Garrow)
  • All around Skethermoor Prison in Skethermoor (also surrounded by plenty of Protocol Soldiers)

Searching the Interchange and surrounding areas

As the Atomic Batteries are primarily needed inside the Interchange, it makes sense that you can find a few of them lying around the large facility. While they’re not in large supply, you can find a few around the different Data Store Rooms in the Interchange.

One easy Atomic Battery is located by a hazmat worker’s body inside the CPU Room in the Interchange. The battery is lying next to the worker on the top floor of the CPU Room, and you can use it immediately by venturing a little farther into the Interchange, but more on that further down in this guide.

You’ll find a couple of Atomic Batteries lying around the Interchange, so make sure to explore the area carefully. It helps tremendously to find the location of every Interchange Door from each of the four maps in Atomfall. This allows you to easily access new areas of the facility and reach places you couldn’t before.

Outside of the Interchange, you can also find Atomic Batteries in other dedicated areas. Specifically, the Druids Cave in Skethermoor (coordinates: 19.5E, 84.0N) houses one Atomic Battery near the blue-glowing hole at the beginning of the cave.

Now that you know the methods behind finding Atomic Batteries, you’re likely wondering what they are used for. After all, each battery takes up a single spot in your inventory, and those 12 spots are highly valuable.

Well, Atomic Batteries primarily have one use: They’re designed to power up Battery Terminals inside the Interchange. Specifically, all four Data Store Rooms in the Interchange require an Atomic Battery to power them up and progress the main story in Atomfall. All four rooms need to be powered so you can access the deeper parts of the Interchange.

Coincidentally, you might also need two Atomic Batteries further inside the Interchange (where Oberon is located) if you take one specific main story path. We won’t spoil what that path is or where the batteries are used, but just know that you might need two of them if you’re planning to follow a specific ending.

Outside of the Interchange, Atomic Batteries don’t have a ton of use in Atomfall. If you have an abundance of them, they can be used as terrific bartering chips, allowing you to trade for just about anything a vendor has in stock.
