After over a year on hiatus due to health issues, professional wrestler Kenny Omega made his much-anticipated return to the ring at Wrestle Dynasty on Jan. 5. He marked the occasion with a brand new entrance theme featuring two legends of the video game industry.
“Before my return tomorrow, I want to announce that I’m debuting a new entrance at the Tokyo Dome,” Omega shared on X (formerly Twitter). “A new song created by the amazing Final Fantasy 14 & 16 composer Masayoshi Soken, with vocals by Jason Miller and a special voice by the legendary Nobuo Uematsu. I hope you enjoy.”
New Japan Pro Wrestling, one of Wrestle Dynasty’s five co-producers, shared footage on X of Omega’s entrance from the event’s live, pay-per-view broadcast.
It’s hard to make out, but what can be heard over the cheers of the crowd is classic Soken. Orchestral melodies swell and subside behind dramatic vocals, resulting in a piece of beautiful music that wouldn’t be out of place in the background of a Final Fantasy 14 raid or a pivotal story moment in Final Fantasy 16. And while I’m not familiar with Nobuo Uematsu’s voice, I’d like to believe that was him hyping Omega up over loudspeakers as the generational talent made his way down the ramp.
Oh and, spoilers, but Omega won his match. Can’t beat a power-up like Final Fantasy music.
