The ongoing TikTok fiasco in the United States had an unexpected casualty in Marvel Snap, which also went dark for a two-day period beginning Jan. 18 due to publisher Nuverse’s connections to TikTok owner ByteDance. And while Marvel Snap eventually came back online for those who already had it downloaded, it remains missing from both Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
Second Dinner’s specific mention of Google Play and not the App Store on Jan. 24, not to mention the possibility of Apple keeping the offending products off its marketplace until ByteDance finds a buyer, indicates Marvel Snap’s return may be staggered across platforms. Polygon has contacted the studio about this possibility, but did not hear back immediately.
Marvel Snap players lucky enough to still have the game on their phones, on the other hand, will soon receive compensation for the two-day disappearance, including Spotlight Keys, experience, various currencies, a ton of boosters, and much, much more, depending on collection level and location. The full details can be found here.
“This disruption of service is more than just an unfortunate blip in our eyes,” Second Dinner said on X (formerly Twitter). “As such, we are not only committed to making up for this disruption, but we want to welcome back players, new and old, with some extra goodies to celebrate. Additionally, to make sure this never happens again, we’re working to bring more services in-house and partner with a new publisher. This is the beginning of a new era in Marvel Snap.”
