NBA 2K Play Offers At-Home Tournaments with Real Cash Prizes

Competitive gaming has been around for decades now, with organized tournaments for multiple games and genres available throughout the year all around the world. 2K Sports and The Play Company want to bring those competitions home, and today the two sides have announced NBA 2K Play, a new initiative that will offer NBA 2K25 cash tournaments on the game’s main menu screen via The Play Company’s Play OS service.

NBA 2K Play will allow NBA 2K25 owners to join pay-to-enter weekly tournaments for cash prizes, as well as “marquee events hosted by celebrities and NBA stars.” Tournaments will be held with both current NBA rosters and custom MyTEAM lineups, and each week’s contest will be accessible via a new button on the Play Now screen.

The NBA 2K Play tournament series will be the first of its kind for a specific title, and the first to ever receive a dedicated menu button. The NBA 2K Play service is live now in both Play Now and MyTeam tournaments.

The Play Company, formerly known as One Up, was founded in 2019 by Brandon Pitts as a way for players to connect and compete for cash prizes via the Play One Up app. The app currently offers competitions in NBA 2K, Madden, and more, and the company partnered with 2K Sports last year for the One Up X NBA 2K24 Championship Series.

NBA 2K25 is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
