Obtaining Lucky Trinkets in Pokémon Go: A Step-by-Step Guide

Pokémon Go has an item that gives you a guaranteed lucky trade called a “Lucky Trinket.” This mysterious orb can only be obtained through very limited methods and is a hot item do to how useful it is.

Below, we explain what Lucky Trinkets do, detail how to get them in Pokémon Go, and give you an idea of what kind of Pokémon trade you may want to use this coveted item on.

What do Lucky Trinkets do?

The Lucky Trinket is a magical one-use item that allows you to instantly turn one of your friends into a Lucky Friend. This works even if you’re not Best Friends yet, so long as you are at least Great Friends already.

This means that you can pretty much select and choose who to have a Lucky Trade with, guaranteeing at least decent stats and the reduced Stardust upgrade cost with the Pokémon you trade. After using the item and completing the trade, the Lucky status with your friend will disappear, as per usual with Lucky Trades.

The Lucky Trinket will not allow you to trade with faraway friends and you can’t use the Lucky Trinket on friends who are already lucky.

If you don’t want people to use the trinket on you, you can also disable this option in your settings.

How to get a Lucky Trinket in Pokémon Go

As of this writing, the only way to get a Lucky Trinket is to reach rank 100 in the deluxe version of the Go Tour Pass, as part of the Go Tour: Unova event. Players who attended the Go Tour: Unova in-person events (in Los Angeles and Taipei) were also able to grab a Lucky Trinket for reaching rank 40 of their pass.

Even then, if you get this Lucky Trinket, it’s set to expire on Sunday, March 9, at 6 p.m. in your local time, so make sure to use it if you get one.

Since this is the first instance of Pokémon Go’s battle pass-like system in action and the first time we’ve seen the Lucky Trinket in game, we don’t know if or when it’ll be available in the future. We’ll update this guide when the Lucky Trinket makes its next appearance.

What should I use my Lucky Trinket on?

Without a doubt, your guaranteed Lucky Trade should be used on any Pokémon you plan on dumping a lot of resources in and using in battle. This could be a powerful Legendary like Mewtwo, Kyurem, or Necrozma, but you can also use this on Gigantamax Pokémon like Gengar or Charizard if you’re into Max Battles.

Just remember that since you’re guaranteed decent IVs from a Lucky Trade, you should trade any lower-IV acquisitions you may have gotten. Turn that pumpkin into a carriage!
