Shin Megami Tensei – The Roleplaying Game: Tokyo Conception is finally available to purchase again at Amazon for a 10% discount after being sold out for months. The English translation of the SMT tabletop RPG has suffered multiple delays due to supply chain issues, though Amazon’s listing now notes that the book released on April 1. It was previously scheduled to launch in September 2024 before quietly being delayed indefinitely.
$45 (was $50)
At the moment, Amazon is “temporarily out of stock,” but you can still place an order for $45 (was $50). Walmart sold out at the $50 price point and remains out of stock as of April 4.
The tabletop RPG originally released in Japan in 1993 and has seen numerous editions and revisions in the years since, but this marks the first English localization. As mentioned, the 320-page Shin Megami Tensei RPG rulebook has already sold out multiple times since it first popped up on Amazon. We don’t expect this to remain available to purchase for long.

The English version, titled Shin Megami Tensei – The Roleplaying Game: Tokyo Conception, is based on the world and gameplay concepts of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. The game melds elements of Nocture’s setting and gameplay–such as demon negotiations, elemental magic, and competing factions–into a tabletop experience based around dice rolls and character sheets.
Shin Megami Tensei – The Role Playing Game: Tokyo Conception’s rulebook contains all the necessary information you need to play, including the full rules, stat tables for demons, and background information on the setting and lore of Shin Megami Tensei. The book also comes with a PDF version of the White Vortex mini campaign. The game is designed for three to five players and one game master.
Tokyo Conception is the fourth edition of the tabletop RPG and is based on the world and gameplay concepts of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. It originally launched in Japan back in September 2004 and was followed up by an expansion, Mala Underground, a few months later. Whether the expansion will also receive an English release, or if it is already part of the English version’s core rulebook, remains to be seen. The game’s fifth and latest edition, Shin Megami Tensei TRPG Mato Tokyo 200X, was released in Japan in 2005 but does not seem to be a part of the English release either.
This isn’t the only exciting Shin Megami book to release in recent months. Persona 5 + Persona 5 Royal: Official Design Works launched last November and is in stock at Amazon. Atlus fans can also preorder the massive 592-page Metaphor: ReFantazio Official Strategy Guide ahead of its April 15 release date.
