The massively popular Hunger Games series has returned with a new novel titled Sunrise on the Reaping. A prequel to the original trilogy, Sunrise on the Reaping instantly vaulted to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list upon its release earlier this week. While Amazon is offering a nice discount on Suzanne Collins’ latest book, big Hunger Games fans should also check out the retailer-exclusive editions sold at Walmart and Barnes & Noble. Walmart’s exclusive edition includes a double-sided poster.
Sunrise on the Reaping Hardcover Editions:
Heads up: Finding Walmart’s exclusive edition on its website is a bit confusing. You’ll want to click “More seller options” on the store page and select the option that is shipped and sold by Walmart. Walmart is the fourth and last option on the list. Based on customer reviews, the random resellers with listings for the Walmart-exclusive edition do not appear reputable. If you order from a reseller, there’s no guarantee you’ll actually get the right edition.
We’ve included a closer look at each hardcover edition of Sunrise on the Reaping below. If all the buzz around Hunger Games has you interested in reading the series for the first time, you can catch up for cheap by picking up the new Hunger Games Deluxe Box Set for $36.74 (was $70).
$19.59 (was $28) | Released on March 18
Sunrise on the Reaping’s hardcover edition is available for $19.59 (was $28) at Amazon.
Walmart’s exclusive hardcover edition is discounted to $21 and includes a double-sided poster featuring a timeline of key events in Panem’s history.
If the exclusive edition sells out, it’s worth noting that Walmart also has the standard hardcover priced at $19.59. Once again, you will need to click “More seller options” on the store page and pick to have your book shipped from Walmart.
If you’d rather read more about the Hunger Games than stare at a poster, you may want to check out Barnes & Noble’s exclusive hardcover edition for $23. This version includes a discussion about the series with author Suzanne Collins and David Levithan, her publisher at Scholastic Press.
Like The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, this 400-page novel is a prequel to the main trilogy. It takes place a few decades before the first novel and focuses on the 50th annual Hunger Games–which is taking twice as many tributes into the arena than usual.

If you need to catch up on the series before reading Sunrise on the Reaping, Scholastic recently reprinted the first four books individually and in an eye-catching Deluxe Edition Box Set.
Published in February, the Hunger Games Deluxe Edition paperbacks have brand-new cover designs and sprayed page edges with stenciled artwork. The mainline trilogy retails for $17 per book, while the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is $19. Amazon is offering discounts that drop those prices to less than $13 each.
If you want the full series, though, you’ll want to opt for the Deluxe Edition Box Set, as it’s discounted to $36.74–nearly 50% off its $70 MSRP. It would cost you roughly $50 to buy all four separately. Plus, the bundle includes a display box with artwork that forms a mosaic when the books are inside.
The first three books in the series follow Katniss Everdeen and her struggle to survive in a dystopian world, while the fourth book, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is a prequel set around 60 years before the main trilogy. It follows President Snow as he mentors a tribute from District 12 and is the longest book in the series at 528 pages. The new paperback editions of the original trilogy are 400 pages each, the same length as Sunrise on the Reaping.
If you already own standard editions of Hunger Games, you may want to take a look at the new Illustrated Edition of the first novel. The Hunger Games: Illustrated Edition was published last October and is on sale for $21.18 (was $35) at Amazon. The oversized 368-page hardcover includes stunning artwork alongside the complete text chronicling Katniss’ first competition. Catching Fire: Illustrated Edition is slated to release this October and is available to preorder for $29.59 (was $37).
And if you’d like to watch the movies after reading the books, The Hunger Games 5-Movie Collection is discounted to $26 (was $43) at Amazon. This Blu-ray box set released last summer and comes with all five film adaptations, including The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
