Switch 2 Joy-Con Leak Has Fans Speculating About New Features

Alleged leaks of the Switch 2 are continuing to ramp up at an ever increasing clip. The latest potential reveal shows a clear comparison between the upcoming console’s upgraded Joy-Con controllers and the existing ones. While none of the information is official, it lines up with other leaks and reports as fans eagerly await a full announcement from Nintendo about its Switch successor.

The latest images allegedly showing the Switch 2 Joy-Con appeared on the Chinese forum Baidu Tieba and were subsequently re-shared across Reddit. The photos show a black case with with a neon blue connector extruding from the side. In addition to the rumored magnetic connector, there appears to be what looks like some sort of optical sensor like you’d find under a PC mouse. Some fans are speculating that this could give the Switch 2 trackpad-like inputs when pointed downwards.

These leaks could still be elaborate fakes, though the alleged Switch 2 Joy-Con in particular appears to have the actual serial number visible on the side. The recent pace of new potential leaks throughout the holiday season into the New Year also suggests that assembly in Chinese manufacturing facilities is in full swing and units are making their way into more peoples’ hands as they move further through Nintendo’s supply chains.

Even if the leaks are accurate, big questions still remain, like how much all of this will cost for one. The existing Switch Joy-Cons are normally $80 for a pair. With inflation and new functionality, could the Switch 2 Joy-Con get bumped up to $100? The only thing Nintendo has confirmed about its upcoming console is that it will be backward compatible and announced before April of this year. That leaves an official reveal feeling pretty imminent. At this rate, Nintendo risks someone posting a full teardown video in a storage closet if it waits any longer.
