The Sandman Season 2 preview delivers a grim gathering of the Endless family.

The Sandman is officially returning for its second and final season. But the new season will come in two volumes this summer, with a split of six episodes in the first run and five in the second.

The two-part final season promises (as so many Sandman stories do) some cosmic stakes, starting with a miserable family reunion: all of the Endless, sitting down together. Joining Dream (Tom Sturridge) at the table are the siblings we know of from season 1 — Death (Kirby), Desire (Mason Alexander Park), Despair (Donna Preston) — as well as some newcomers: Destiny (Adrian Lester), Delirium (The Legend of Vox Machina’s Esmé Creed-Miles), and a character known as “The Prodigal” (Barry Sloane), a name that will be familiar for those who read the comics. Should the show be following the comics, the sibs will eventually be on a road trip.

But that’s not the only arc being covered by the season. As the trailer teases (and past casting announcements have confirmed) we’ll also be getting a host of new faces playing familiar characters: Clive Russell, Laurence O’Fuarain, and Freddie Fox will play the Norse gods Odin, Thor, and Loki, respectively. Meanwhile Jack Gleeson, Ann Skelly, and Douglas Booth will check in as A Midsummer Night’s Dream’s faerie characters, Puck, Nuala, and Cluracan.

The Sandman season 2 will premiere on Netflix in two parts: Volume 1 comes on July 3 with six episodes. Volume 2 drops July 24, with the final five.
