Toho Animation released a new trailer for My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Monday, introducing the anime world to Koichi Haimawari, the unlicensed hero of the MHA spinoff manga of the same name. Meet the Crawler, Knuckleduster, and their less enthusiastic friend — as well as the series’ first theme song, “Kekka Orai” by Kocchi no Kento.
Based on the manga by writer Hideyuki Furuhashi and artist Betten Court, which was overseen by MHA creator Kohei Horikoshi, Vigilantes follows heroic characters in the underbelly of Japan’s super-powered community — washouts of the country’s Pro Hero system, street performers, and those without Quirks who still want to fight for those who can’t defend themselves. The series takes place five years before the events of the main My Hero Academia series, with occasional cameos from familiar characters.
The new anime is produced by My Hero Academia mainstay studio Bones Film, with director Kenichi Suzuki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders) and writer Yosuke Kuroda (My Hero Academia).
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes will stream on Crunchyroll starting April 7.
